My Story:
Welcome to White Lotus Designs! I’m Sage Barber and I love and am inspired by plants and what they have to offer. I am deeply touched by the natural beauty of Vermont, this magnificent place I call home, as well as by each of the plants I interact with on my journey. I also feel a deep connection to the landscape of the Pacific Northwest, where I lived and worked for many years. Currently, I live with my partner, our three children and a sweet community on a peaceful piece of property in Vermont, surrounded by meadows, hardwood forests, and flowing waters. White Lotus Designs was born out of a desire to offer gratitude to the plants, keep me in touch with my creative side, and honor my passion for working independently. Being a solo-entrepreneur supports me in living an inspired, joyful, abundant, and meaningful life.
My love of plants and art began as a child when I would retreat to the woods behind my house. Sometimes it felt like the safest and most nurturing place to be. It was my true home and sanctuary.
Many years ago I was delighted to learn about the plants medicinal and healing properties, and now it is my deeper connection to them as plant "spirits" and "allies" that inspires me most. To this day, my relationship with the plants is a taproot of nourishment and strength as I navigate work, motherhood, family life, and my many other responsibilities in the world.
I am a self-taught artist. As a way to give back to the plants, and offer gratitude from my heart for all the ways they have nourished me, I have created a line of greeting cards with an image of each plant on the front and their medicinal and/or culinary qualities on the back. As I am continually being inspired by new plants, new cards are born. This is my offering back to the green world and a way to nourish my own intuitive, sensitive soul.
I am also in the midst of honing my business skills as a savvy, solo-entrepreneur with high ethical and environmental standards. I believe in small sustainable business models that support not only my family and myself, but also contribute to the healing of people, the earth, and all the creatures that live here. I hope you enjoy my on-line collection of cards and that you take in the colors & textures of each one. My ultimate goal is to create more hope and beauty in this world and these cards are just the beginning. Stay tuned as I evolve and grow my creative capacities.

A little bit about the name- White Lotus Designs:
I chose this name for my business as the image of the lotus blossoming out of the mud and all that it stands for. It has given me hope. As Vietnamese Buddhist Monk, Thich Nhat Hanh says, "No mud, no lotus." I did not come from an easy past. My hope is that the pain and suffering I survived, endured, and I'm working on transforming can be of service to others, and help support other people's healing and Mother Earth's healing too. I hope this site and my story supports you and inspires you on your own unique journey.
